Our Story

Tutulist was founded by former ballet dancer turned finance/technology professional, Sara Judd. After helping her grandmother retire and close her ballet studio, she was trying to figure out what to do about the massive costume collection her grandmother had amassed. Sara realized there was a great need for a marketplace for gently-used and new dancewear and costumes - and the idea for Tutulist was born.

Tutulist started as a consignment store in 2017. Shortly after launching, it became clear there was large demand for a better solution for dancewear and the platform needed to be reimagined. Due to the demands of Sara's finance career, Tutulist was put on the backburner for a few years.

In 2022, Sara decided it was the year of the tutu and relaunched Tutulist. Tutulist developed and launched a platform that allows users to post their own items, which is key to expand the solution on a global scale. Since the relaunch, Tutulist has given over 10,000 dancewear and costume items an encore and has proudly grown a coalition of #dancersfortheplanet.

Our Mission

At Tutulist, we believe in sustainability and reducing waste in the dance community. By providing a platform for dancers to sell their gently-used dancewear and costumes, we are not only helping them earn some extra cash, but we are also keeping these items out of landfills. We believe in the power of secondhand items and the role they can play in reducing our environmental impact.

In addition to promoting sustainability, we also believe in providing access to dance for all. Dance can be an expensive hobby, and we want to make it more accessible to those who may not have the means to purchase new dancewear and costumes. By offering affordable dancewear options on Tutulist, we hope to make dance more accessible and inclusive.

Supporting new and small dancewear brands is also a top priority for us. We know that many dancers rely on the big-name brands for their dancewear, but we want to showcase the unique and innovative products that smaller brands have to offer. By promoting these brands on Tutulist, we hope to help them grow and succeed in the dance community.

Our platform is designed to make buying and selling dancewear and costumes easy, affordable, and sustainable.
